Shakin' the Tree:  West African Music

During one of my classroom visits at Lycee Charles DeGaulle in Dakar, I mentioned to students that I admired the music of Senegal and was planning to devote an episode of my radio show, Tower of Song, to West African music—whereupon I passed around my memo pad & asked them to list their favorite Senegalese musicians.  I was very delighted to hear them name Youssou N’Dour—my favorite as well, and certainly the most beloved Senegalese musician worldwide—as a perennially popular musician, even among 18-year-olds.
