El Cobrecito Trail Race

Back by popular demand & a weak memory:El Cobrecito Trail RaceSaturday, May 27, 20238 AM sharpNew Mexico State 13.1 km Masters Championship Join us for our 50th running of the Race Formerly Known as The Ft. Bayard Wilderness Run. We’ve moved the old race to nearby Bataan Memorial Park, which the race director considers a nearly perfect trail-race venue.  Whereas the old course was a gritty, dust-choked, coyote-scented ankle-twister in the foothills of the Gila, the new course is all that—plus it offers better parking & restrooms, & even more single-track than the old course.  Plus there’s a playground for your non-running family members to enjoy while you’re having your peculiar brand of weekend trail-run larks.
  • As with the old Ft. Bayard Trail Races, we will feature two race distances:  4 miles (plus change) for the fleet-footed; 8.1 miles for the longsuffering.
  • Per tradition, we’ll reward the toughest runners with Robin Parsons-designed Mimbreño trophy bowls in four age brackets, with additional prizes for walkers.
  • To order a shirt, you must register by May 7.
  • Mail-in registration deadline without a shirt is May 19.
  • Race Day Registration opens at 6:30 AM; same-day reg is $22.
  • Directions from Silver City:  Take US 180 East for approximately 6 miles.  Turn left onto Ft. Bayard Rd. (across from the town of Santa Clara) & enter the parking lot of Bataan Memorial Recreational Park on your left.  Follow signs to the starting line.

Online registration is available at https://runsignup.com/Race/NM/SantaClara/ElCobrecitoTrailRuns.
All proceeds benefit the Ella, Michael, & Ella Scholarship Fund at Aldo Leopold Charter School.
